Northeast US faces renewed heavy rain and flash flood risk

A low‑pressure system moving through the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes is being pushed east by an advancing cold front, drawing deep Atlantic moisture into the Northeast. The forecast calls for heavy rain and thunderstorms from southern Ohio through Pennsylvania and western to central New York on Saturday and Sunday, with slow‑moving storms likely to produce repeated heavy downpours and flash‑flood threats.

The region is still saturated after historic rainfall earlier in the week that dropped more than 10 inches in parts of upstate New York, flooding streets in Albany and trapping cars. With soils already soaked, the renewed rain raises the risk of flash flooding across the Northeast, especially in eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, western New York and southern New England.
