Northeastern US faces rain and thunderstorms as summer begins

A severe weather system moving eastward across the Mid‑Atlantic is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to parts of the Northeastern United States at the start of astronomical summer. In New Jersey, a Flood Watch covers 15 counties on Monday afternoon and night, with rainfall totals of 1.5‑2 inches possible, raising concerns about flash flooding of low‑lying roads, damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado.

In Ithaca, New York, the same system will produce a cool, rainy Monday with 0.5‑1 inch of rain followed by a brief period of dry, seasonable weather. A weaker low‑pressure area will bring additional showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, with temperatures in the mid‑80s and occasional gusty winds.
