Northern Argentine provinces agree on summer electricity subsidies

Provinces in the Norte Grande region of Argentina, including Tucumán, have reached an agreement with the national government to implement a differentiated electricity subsidy regime for warmer zones. The measure aims to provide economic relief during the summer months when high temperatures lead to peak electricity consumption for cooling.

To ensure the benefits reach residents before the next summer season, the National Energy Secretariat will implement the compensation through an administrative resolution rather than waiting for federal legislation. This approach provides immediate relief for the period between November and April.

Officials noted that this scheme creates a symmetrical tariff regime with the existing gas subsidies provided to cold zones in southern Argentina. The initiative was supported by governors from the NOA and NEA regions to address historical regional disparities in energy costs.
