Northern British Columbia receives major infrastructure and business investments

The Canadian federal and provincial governments have announced significant economic and infrastructure developments in northern British Columbia. The federal government is investing over $11 million into ten businesses and organizations through PacifiCan to boost productivity, job creation, and economic diversification in sectors such as advanced manufacturing and forestry.

One recipient, Prince George-based Open Waters Solar, will receive $450,000 to automate manufacturing and upgrade facilities for its impact-resistant solar panels. These investments aim to strengthen supply chains and help local industries navigate global trade pressures.

Simultaneously, construction has begun on the North Coast Transmission Line expansion. This major electricity project will link Prince George to Terrace, potentially doubling the electricity supply to the region. The project is intended to support industrial developments, including the Ksi Lisims liquefied natural gas facility and mining operations in the Golden Triangle. Officials estimate the power expansion could contribute $10 billion annually to the British Columbia economy, create 9,700 jobs, and generate $950 million in municipal and provincial revenue.
