Northern Cyprus fuel prices lower than regional neighbors

The Benzinciler Birliği has reported that fuel prices in Northern Cyprus are lower than in neighboring regions as of August 20, 2026. The assessment highlights significant price differences in Euro Diesel, which is a critical input for the production, tourism, and transportation sectors.

According to the report, Euro Diesel in Northern Cyprus is priced at 67 TL per liter, compared to 99.24 TL in South Cyprus and 83 TL in Turkey. Similarly, unleaded 95 petrol is 68.12 TL in Northern Cyprus, while it costs 88.09 TL in South Cyprus and 73 TL in Turkey.

The association also noted a disparity in diesel purchasing power based on gross minimum wages. Using an exchange rate of 1 Euro to 55.75 TL, the report states that a gross minimum wage in Northern Cyprus allows for the purchase of approximately 1,058 liters of diesel. In comparison, the same wage in South Cyprus allows for 611 liters, and in Turkey, it allows for approximately 398 liters. The Benzinciler Birliği emphasized that while low fuel taxes keep pump prices affordable, the general economic status of the public should not be judged solely on fuel costs.
