Northern Cyprus leaders endorse two‑state politics and sovereignty

President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus addressed a conference in Yalova, Turkey, declaring that the two‑state model for Cyprus has become institutionalised. He highlighted the historic failure of federation proposals, criticism of the EU‑backed Annan Plan, and stressed Northern Cyprus’ maritime zones, continental shelf and exclusive economic zone, asserting Turkish support for its sovereignty.

AK Party deputy chairman Kürşad Zorlu spoke at the Mediterranean Peace and Diplomacy Forum, urging Turkish and international institutions to re‑promote Northern Cyprus worldwide. He described the community’s resilience despite decades of isolation, noted its recent observer status in the Turkish States Organization, and called for equal international standing and an end to Greek‑Cypriot opposition.
