Northern Cyprus Olympic Committee calls for joint sports commission with Turkey

Orçun Kamalı, president of the Northern Cyprus (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) National Olympic Committee, has proposed the creation of a joint sports commission between Northern Cyprus and Turkey. The commission would consist of officials from relevant public institutions, the two National Olympic Committees and the respective sports federations, and would meet at least twice a year.

Kamalı said the body would improve cooperation among federations, evaluate problems, plan joint projects and set long‑term strategic goals. He emphasized that sports is an important diplomatic tool and argued that a formal, state‑level framework is needed instead of ad‑hoc cooperation based on personal contacts. He also highlighted the potential for joint training programmes, camp organisations, scientific studies, athlete‑development projects and coordinated participation in international events.
