Northern Cyprus outlines economic reforms and two‑state solution at vision workshop

Under Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus held a “Vision and Project Workshop for a Strong, Sovereign Future” that brought together government officials, civil society and business representatives. Finance Minister Özdemir Berova reported on fiscal reforms launched for 2022‑2026, emphasizing macro‑economic stability, digital tax administration, public‑spending savings, green‑energy investments and the attraction of foreign capital. He highlighted progress in combating the informal economy, expanding e‑government services and supporting SMEs and tourism.

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu used the same forum to argue that the long‑standing federation model is no longer viable and that a two‑state solution based on equal sovereignty is the only realistic path for Cyprus. He cited the United Nations’ recent visit, the historic status inequality stemming from UN Resolution 186, and stressed that any future process must guarantee the Turkish Cypriot community’s equal international status.
