Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar Visits Mersin, Highlights Strategic Trade Links
Ersin Tatar, the fifth president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, visited the restored Anamur Justice Palace in Turkey’s Mersin province. He met with Chief Public Prosecutor Tanju Çatlı and district governor Kemal Duru, thanked officials for the building’s refurbishment and underscored the town’s strategic importance for tourism, agriculture and cultural cooperation.
Tatar then toured the Mersin Organized Industrial Zone, where he spoke with OSB president Sabri Tekli about deepening economic ties between Northern Cyprus and Turkey. He praised Mersin as a logistics hub, stating, “Narenciyemizi Mersin üzerinden dünyanın birçok noktasına ulaştırıyoruz. Mersin bizim için çok önemli bir merkez konumunda.” The visit also highlighted the zone’s solar‑energy use (about 30 % of its electricity) and its on‑site education facilities, including a nursery and vocational schools, as models for regional development.
