Northern Cyprus transport groups demand student transport solutions

Transport operators in Northern Cyprus are demanding concrete decisions and a clear implementation schedule regarding student transportation services. Fuat Topaloğlu, President of the Kar-İş Association, has called on Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu to publicly disclose all correspondence, proposals, and commitments made during ongoing negotiations. Topaloğlu rejected accusations of insincerity from the Ministry, demanding that the government provide evidence for such claims or retract them.

Simultaneously, Beksan Bekir Akandere, President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Transport Union (KTTTB), emphasized that student transportation must achieve a formal legal status. Akandere argued that service rules, responsibilities, and conditions must be secured through official protocols and contracts. The union has expressed concerns regarding the sustainability of the current system, citing delayed service fee payments which impact fuel, personnel, insurance, and vehicle maintenance costs.

Both organizations are seeking transparency regarding inspection results and the application of safety standards, including seat belts, vehicle inspections, and tracking systems, to ensure a safe and professional environment for the upcoming academic year.
