Uttar Pradesh experiences heavy rain as IMD issues orange alerts for multiple districts

India's Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alerts for heavy rain across several north‑Indian states, including Bihar, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, as well as a state‑wide warning for Uttar Pradesh. All 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh were placed under a heavy‑rain alert, with the department forecasting intense rainfall for the next 24‑48 hours. In Lucknow, 13.3 mm of rain was recorded, while nearby districts such as Muzaffarnagar (7.6 mm), Etawah (10 mm) and Banda (5.3 mm) also saw significant downpours. Temperatures fell below normal, with Lucknow’s maximum temperature dropping to 32.3 °C. Dense fog reduced visibility to as low as seven metres in parts of Chhattisgarh, affecting travel. While northern regions contended with rain and fog, central‑western states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat continued to face heat‑wave alerts. The combined weather conditions prompted warnings about strong winds, lightning and the need for public safety precautions.
