Northern India weather alert: Heavy rain, landslides, and floods feared

Heavy rainfall has triggered weather alerts across several northern Indian regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. In Himachal Pradesh, an orange alert has been issued for the Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmour districts due to the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Other districts, such as Shimla, Solan, and Chamba, are under a yellow alert.

The intense precipitation has caused rivers and streams to overflow, particularly in Kangra. There is a heightened risk of landslides, debris flows, and flash floods in sensitive hilly areas. Additionally, waterlogging in low-lying areas and reduced visibility on mountain roads are expected to impact transportation.

In Uttarakhand, heavy rains have disrupted daily life in Dehradun and Haridwar, with reports of two buildings collapsing near a river in Dehradun. Landslides have also impacted traffic in mountainous regions. Meanwhile, weather authorities have issued alerts for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for August 13, advising residents to exercise caution and avoid traveling to high-risk areas.
