Schools in UK, Hungary, and Serbia targeted by bomb threats

Hundreds of schools across Northern Ireland, Scotland, Hungary, and Serbia were targeted by bomb threat emails on Monday, causing widespread alarm and several school evacuations.

In Northern Ireland, up to 300 schools reported receiving identical messages. Education Minister Paul Givan noted the threats appeared to be from Islamists, claiming that Sharia law would be imposed and that explosive devices were inside the buildings. The messages reportedly included the phrase ‘Allahu Akbar’. In Scotland, Police Scotland is investigating similar threatening messages sent to multiple schools, which they are treating as a hoax.

In Hungary, more than 70 schools were targeted by emails claiming explosives had been placed on the premises. Hungarian Interior Minister Gabor Posfai stated that investigations found the threats to be unfounded. Similarly, in Serbia, over 100 schools received bomb alerts.

Authorities in all affected regions have stated that the threats do not appear to be credible or viable, though the incidents caused significant disruption to educational activities.
