Northern Israelis reconsider Netanyahu support ahead of election

Residents in northern Israel are reconsidering their political allegiances ahead of the October 27 election. Many former supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed dissatisfaction with his government, citing a failure to secure lasting stability along the border with Lebanon.

The region has faced significant disruption due to thousands of rockets and drones fired by the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. These attacks displaced tens of thousands of Israelis and forced many businesses to close. While a fragile ceasefire was reached in November 2024, allowing some evacuees to return in early 2025, tensions resurfaced following the outbreak of conflict involving Iran.

In traditional Likud strongholds, some voters indicated they may shift their support to political rivals, such as former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, as they weigh the security consequences of the recent conflicts.
