Northern Vietnam and China Grapple with Heavy Rain and Typhoon Bavi

Northern Vietnam continued to experience strong rain showers and isolated thunderstorms on July 11‑13, with some locations recording over 100 mm of rain, such as Ka Lăng (127 mm) and Hua Trai (118 mm). The weather agency warned of possible tornadoes, hail, strong gusts and flash flooding across the region, affecting travel and prompting local flood‑mitigation measures.

In neighboring China, authorities activated emergency disaster‑response protocols for super‑typhoon Bavi, which is expected to bring 300‑350 mm of rain to Beijing and Hebei between July 10‑13. Multiple ministries and local governments have mobilised forecasts, warnings, and evacuation plans. Meanwhile, Vietnam's Ho a Bình dam began bottom‑gate releases on July 11 to manage water levels and protect downstream communities.
