Intense rain from the night of 2 August to the morning of 3 August caused deep flooding—over one metre in places—on provincial road 156 and numerous local streets in Lào Cai Province. The water inundated six villages of Cốc San commune, submerged sections of the national road 4E and forced road closures. Landslides damaged houses and blocked routes in villages such as Củm Hạ 1, Củm Hạ 2 and Tòng Mòn. No casualties have been reported, and local authorities deployed police, military, and volunteer forces to assist residents, clear debris, set up warning signs and maintain 24‑hour monitoring.

In neighbouring Tuyên Quang Province, the Lùng Tám commune experienced severe landslides that displaced about 50,000 m³ of earth, destroying a 20‑metre stretch of road and threatening nearby homes. Again, no injuries were recorded, and officials organized road diversions, posted barriers and urged people to stay clear of the unstable zones.

The Vietnam Meteorological Agency’s forecast warns that heavy rain will continue across the northern region, keeping the risk of further flooding, flash floods and landslides high through the coming days.
