Northern Vietnam braces for heavy rain, some areas expect over 200 mm

The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasts warned that an end‑of‑season cold front will bring a widespread heavy‑rain event to northern Vietnam, including the provinces of Thanh Hóa and Nghệ An, from the evening of 8 June through the night of 9 June. Expected rainfall is generally 30‑80 mm, but localized totals could exceed 200 mm, with the potential for more than 100 mm in a three‑hour period.

The service highlighted a high risk of flash flooding, urban and industrial waterlogging, landslides on steep slopes, and strong gusts, lightning and hail. Prior to the rain, the region experienced intense heat with temperatures up to 39 °C; the rain is expected to end the heat wave.
