Norway authorizes military exports and training to Moldova
Norway has authorized the export of military equipment, services, and technology transfers to the Republic of Moldova. This decision includes categories A and B, covering small arms, ammunition, and other military-use equipment. Additionally, Norwegian companies may now provide training and intermediary services.
Norwegian authorities stated that each export request will undergo strict individual examination and control procedures similar to those applied to exports to Ukraine. To ensure security, products can only be delivered to Moldovan state authorities as the end user. The decision was prompted by the regional security situation and the impact of the war in Ukraine, noting that while there is no imminent risk of armed conflict in Moldova, the country faces significant hybrid actions from Russia.
Unlike previous civilian assistance provided through the Nansen Programme, this military support will be funded through Norway’s regular defense budget. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense welcomed the decision, stating it is a vital step in modernizing the country’s defense capabilities and enhancing national resilience and stability.
