Norway electricity prices expected to rise this autumn

Low reservoir levels in Southern and Central Norway are expected to drive up electricity prices this autumn. Due to a warm and dry summer, water reservoir filling levels have reached their lowest point in 20 years.

Energy analyst Ola Kristian Taraldrud from Vibb notes that more than normal precipitation will be required this autumn to replenish these levels. Because Norway relies heavily on hydroelectric power, low water levels typically correlate with higher spot prices.

In addition to domestic water levels, international factors such as instability in the Middle East and potential disruptions to gas transport through the Hormuz Strait are contributing to volatility in oil and gas prices, which impacts electricity costs in Europe and Southern Norway.
