Norway faces rising electricity price concerns for businesses and households

Concerns are rising regarding electricity costs in Norway for both households and businesses. The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) has called on the government to take action to mitigate high winter prices. NHO CEO Ole Erik Almlid expressed concern that low water reservoir levels and depleted European gas reserves could lead to price spikes similar to those seen in 2022. The organization is requesting state support for energy efficiency in industry, lower grid fees, and improved fixed-price agreements for companies.

For households, electricity remains a major expense, accounting for approximately 86 percent of energy use in 2024. Data from Statistics Norway (SSB) indicates significant variations in consumption, with detached houses using an average of 19,676 kWh annually compared to 8,951 kWh for apartments. Experts suggest that reducing consumption in major areas like heating, as well as managing standby power and appliance usage, can help offset high costs.
