Norway launches research project on AI information reliability for youth

A new research project is launching to investigate how young people can find reliable information through artificial intelligence (AI) searches. The project, funded by the Dam Foundation, will run from January 2027 to March 2029. It is a collaborative effort involving the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir), the Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufdir), Redd Barna, and the research institute SINTEF.

The initiative follows a decline in traffic to official Norwegian information portals like Utdanning.no and Ung.no. Following the launch of Google’s AI Overviews in Norway in May 2025, Utdanning.no reported a drop in page views from 11.5 million in 2025 to 8 million in 2026. The project aims to understand how AI services retrieve and present content to ensure young users can trust the information they receive when making decisions about education and careers.

In the academic sphere, educators are exploring pedagogical models to integrate AI into learning. One proposed method is the ‘AI sandwich’ model, which encourages students to engage in independent thinking, use AI as a tool, and then conclude with their own professional assessment to maintain human judgment.
