Norway: Majority favor extension of fuel tax cuts

A Norstat survey commissioned by NAF reveals that a majority of Norwegians, 57 percent, believe temporary tax cuts on gasoline and diesel should have been extended. The sentiment is strongest among diesel vehicle owners, with 77 percent supporting an extension, compared to 67 percent of gasoline vehicle owners and 49 percent of electric vehicle owners.

The temporary reductions in road use taxes and CO2 taxes were reinstated to normal levels on September 1. Since then, fuel prices have risen, with diesel exceeding 30 kroner per liter at several locations. NAF Director Stig Skjøstad expressed concern regarding price developments through the autumn, suggesting that tax cuts remain a viable tool to reduce consumer costs if price pressure continues.
