Norway private kindergarten strike looms over 1,100 employees

Labor unions Fagforbundet, Utdanningsforbundet, and Delta are scheduled to enter mediation with the Private Barnehagers Landsforbund (PBL) on Monday, September 28. The negotiations focus on real wage growth, predictable pensions, and other working conditions such as competence recognition and work clothing.

If an agreement is not reached, approximately 1,100 employees across more than 70 private kindergartens in 12 Norwegian municipalities are prepared to strike starting Wednesday, September 30. Affected municipalities include Bergen, Bodø, Kristiansand, Molde, Nittedal, Sandefjord, Sarpsborg, Skien, Stavanger, Tromsø, Trondheim, and Ullensaker. In Tromsø specifically, 57 employees across several kindergartens, including Norrøna Barnehage and Kulturbarnehagen, could be impacted by the potential walkout.
