Norway proposes 2027 budget with major tax cuts and energy shifts

The Norwegian government has presented its 2027 state budget proposal, featuring a significant 6.4 billion NOK cut in income tax. This measure aims to increase labor incentives and provide broad relief to citizens. However, the budget also includes several controversial adjustments.

In the energy sector, the government proposes increasing the 'Norgespris' electricity rate from 40 to 45 øre per kWh before VAT, a move that has faced opposition from several political parties. Additionally, the threshold for VAT on electric vehicles is set to be lowered from 300,000 NOK to 150,000 NOK, effectively increasing costs for many buyers.

To bolster national security, the government plans to double fuel emergency stockpiles to cover between 40 and 45 days of domestic consumption. The culture budget is proposed at 28.1 billion NOK, with specific allocations for NRK (8.01 billion NOK), the film sector, and the 'Eldreløftet' elderly care initiative, which receives over 4 billion NOK.

Other notable changes include a 24 percent funding cut for Posten, which may lead to significant job losses, and increased fees for the fishing fleet regarding research and control. The budget also includes increased student support and investments in student housing.
