Norway energy sector reports varying Q3 results amid price shifts
Norway's energy and resource sectors reported diverse third-quarter results driven by fluctuating oil and gas prices. Vår Energi reported a significant increase in pre-tax profit to $2.09 billion, up from $1 billion in the same period last year, leading to an increased dividend of $400 million. Analysts expect Equinor to report its strongest results since 2022, with an estimated adjusted pre-tax profit of $12.19 billion.
In contrast, fertilizer producer Yara reported a decrease in pre-tax profit to $267 million, down from $426 million last year, despite a slight increase in revenue. Yara noted that rising European gas costs and operational challenges impacted results.
In the consumer sector, electricity prices in Norway rose in September due to high European gas prices and maintenance of Nordic nuclear power. The government has proposed increasing the 'Norgespris' rate to 56.25 øre per kWh in 2027. Additionally, rapid charging prices for electric vehicles have seen increases from major providers such as Eviny, Mer, and Uno-X.
