Norway public services hit by massive DDoS attack
Norway is facing a major, ongoing DDoS attack targeting its public digital infrastructure. The Digitaliseringsdirektoratet (Digdir) reported that the attack, which began around 03:41 on Monday, is two to three times larger than previous incidents. The attack has been ongoing for over 30 hours, occurring in waves that cause periodic service availability.
At least ten public services have been impacted, including ID-porten, MinID, Altinn, and E-innsyn. Additionally, Digital postkasse has faced disruptions. The healthcare sector is also affected; Norsk helsenett reported issues with HelseID logins via ID-porten, as well as difficulties with online pharmacies and authentication through Reseptformidleren. Some services remain accessible via mobile applications.
The National Security Authority (NSM) is collaborating with Digdir to manage the situation. Officials have clarified that while the attack causes significant service disruptions and potential wait times, hackers do not have access to sensitive information stored within the systems. Digdir has refused ransom demands from the attackers.
