Norway sentences men for massive digital fraud and other crimes

Five men in their 20s have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from two and a half to nearly seven years for a massive, organized digital fraud scheme in Norway. The group was involved in approximately 100,000 attempted gross frauds, identity theft, and money laundering. The operation utilized fake messages appearing to come from entities like Telenor or Altinn to trick victims—primarily elderly residents in Eastern Norway—into providing personal information and bank credentials.

In separate legal developments, a 22-year-old man was sentenced to 21 months in prison for psychologically aiding a violent rape in Bergen by encouraging the perpetrator via Snapchat. Additionally, a man in his 20s received a 26-day prison sentence for violence against police and using a racist slur toward an officer in Ålesund, a ruling upheld by the Frostating Court of Appeal.
