Norway U.S. silver coin fraud convictions

Overview

Three Norwegians have been sentenced to up to two and a half years in prison following a money laundering investigation involving tens of thousands of U.S. silver coins. The case, handled by the economic crime unit Økokrim, involved the conversion of proceeds from a large investment scheme in the United States into approximately 67,000 American Eagle silver coins, valued at roughly $2.65 million.

The investigation began in April 2025 after police intercepted vans in Baerum, west of Oslo. Public Prosecutor Jon André Hvoslef-Eide noted that the recovered silver may allow for the potential return of misappropriated assets to the victims of the U.S.-based fraud. While the three Norwegians were convicted of organizing and storing the coins, two British nationals facing charges were acquitted. The verdict remains subject to appeal.
