Norway leads 2026 Global Retirement Index for financial security

The 2026 Global Retirement Index, produced by the financial group Natixis, ranks 44 countries based on 18 indicators including health, wealth, quality of life, and financial stability. Norway maintains its top position with a score of 83%, followed by Ireland at 82% and the Netherlands at 79%.

Switzerland has seen a decline, dropping from the first position in 2024 to fourth place, largely due to a decrease in material well-being despite high life expectancy. Germany has risen to seventh place, remaining the highest-ranked major industrial economy. The index highlights that high national debt, inequality, and complex social systems can hinder large industrial nations from reaching the top tier occupied primarily by Northern European states.
