Norwegian Centre Party Open to Right‑Wing Deal on Fuel‑Price Reductions
The Centre Party (Sp) says it could seek support from the conservative parties if the red‑green coalition fails to curb soaring fuel prices. Sp parliamentarian Erling Sande warned that the war in Iran may keep prices high and added that the party does not rule out new cooperation with the right on lower fuel costs.
In March, Sp joined the right‑wing parties Høyre, FrP and KrF to secure a majority to cut the road‑use fee and the CO₂ tax on mineral fuels from 1 May to 1 September, a move estimated to reduce state revenues by about 6.3 billion NOK. When the road‑use fee is reinstated on 1 September, fuel prices could rise by roughly four kroner per litre. Sp stresses that if negotiations with its budget partners do not produce a solution, it will consider alternative routes.
