Nothing rolls out Android 17 update for four smartphone models

Nothing has begun the staggered rollout of its stable Nothing OS 5.0 update, based on Android 17, for the Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (3a), and Phone (3a) Pro. This release follows the earlier deployment for the Phone (3).

The update introduces several interface and functional changes, including a dedicated Glyph app for light control, a separation of the notification panel from Quick Settings, and the new Geist typeface. Aesthetic updates feature a Translucent theme with a frosted-glass effect, new lock screen clock styles, and custom clock colors. For privacy, a three-color status bar indicator will signal when sensitive functions like location services or AI processing are active.

Camera capabilities vary by model. The Phone (3a) and 3a Pro receive a new Tuning feature with seven adjustable effects, video filters, and Dual-view Video. The Phone (4a) and 4a Pro gain Dual-view Video and improved Essential Voice transcription speeds. All supported devices will see general improvements to zoom quality, close-up shots, and QR code scanning.
