Nottinghamshire police seize dangerous delivery vehicles in crackdown

Police in Nottinghamshire conducted a targeted operation on freelance delivery drivers in Eastwood, identifying about 20 cars and vans for inspection. Two vehicles were seized after being deemed unsafe: a car with a severely cracked windscreen and a van with a front tyre so worn that the structural cord was visible. Six traffic offence reports were issued for illegal tyres, invalid licences, lack of insurance, driving without a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving and carrying insecure loads. In one vehicle officers found a female passenger surrounded by a large pile of parcels that obstructed the driver's peripheral vision.

The operation, carried out jointly by the Nottinghamshire Police Roads Policing and Road Crime Team and East Midlands Home Office Immigration officers, also led to four arrests for immigration offences, including overstaying without permission to work. A Home Office spokesperson warned that illegal working undermines honest employers, depresses wages and fuels organised crime, noting a sharp rise in illegal‑working arrests since the government took office.
