Nova Iguaçu expands child vaccination sites, adds daily BCG at shopping clinic
The Nova Iguaçu municipal health department announced an expansion of childhood immunisation services. Starting 2 July 2026, the Policlínica do Shopping Nova Iguaçu will offer the BCG vaccine daily, Monday‑Friday from 08:00 to 12:00, joining five other city units that already provide the shot. BCG protects newborns and children under five from severe tuberculosis.
From 6 July 2026, the Pneumo 20 vaccine, which covers 20 strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, will be available at eleven health centres across the municipality, with extended hours of 08:00‑22:00 on weekdays. The vaccine guards against pneumonia, meningitis and related infections in children under five. Parents must present the child’s vaccination record and an ID or CPF to receive either vaccine. The rollout aims to increase access and protect the city’s youngest residents from vaccine‑preventable diseases.
