Nova Iguaçu expands dengue control with motorcycle‑mounted fogger
On July 15, 2026 the municipality of Nova Iguaçu announced an expanded fight against Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika and chikungunya. The city introduced the “motofog,” a fog‑producing device mounted on a motorcycle, allowing insecticide to reach hard‑to‑access places such as cemeteries, alleys, dead‑end streets, riverbanks and other narrow locations.
Health Secretary Luiz Carlos Nobre Cavalcanti said the effort is part of a permanent strategy that combines house‑to‑house visits, removal of breeding sites and community education. Coordinator Marcos Euclides highlighted that the motofog provides almost 100 % coverage in the targeted spots. Residents are urged to check their yards weekly, eliminate standing water and cooperate with field agents.
The municipal health team continues routine inspections of drains, water tanks and other containers that could serve as mosquito habitats, aiming to keep dengue cases low across the city.
