Nova Iguaçu and other Brazilian cities hold men's health week and Day of the Man campaigns
Municipal health authorities in Brazil are running coordinated campaigns to promote men's health. In Nova Iguaçu, the municipal health secretariat has organized a Semana da Saúde do Homem (Men's Health Week) from July 13‑17 across 62 Family Clinics. The programme offers free rapid tests for syphilis, hepatitis B & C and HIV, vaccination updates, condoms, prenatal counseling for partners, dental care, and health education. Secretary of Health Luiz Carlos Nobre Cavalcanti said the aim is to bring men closer to primary care and encourage regular preventive check‑ups.
In another municipality, the Secretaria Municipal de Saúde marked the national Dia do Homem on July 15 with a one‑day action for municipal employees. Participants received blood‑pressure checks, STI rapid tests, nutritional assessments, dental exams, electro‑cardiograms and referrals to specialised services such as ophthalmology, psychiatry, dermatology and rheumatology. Secretary Luis Ferreira emphasized that “prevention is the best way to detect disease early and improve chances of cure.” Both campaigns stress continual health monitoring beyond the traditional November Blue campaign and aim to change attitudes toward routine preventive care among men.
The initiatives provide free or low‑cost services, distribute educational materials, and involve partnerships with Sest/Senat and local health units to sustain the activities throughout July.
