Nova Iguaçu Mayor demands solutions for Via Dutra drainage issues

Nova Iguaçu Mayor Dudu Reina met with the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) to demand solutions for drainage problems caused by the expansion of the Via Dutra highway. The meeting, held on September 30, 2026, focused on potential contract changes for the concessionaire Ecovias Rio Minas.

The Mayor highlighted several critical issues identified by the municipality, including inadequate micro-drainage levels in the Posse neighborhood and damaged drainage pipes in Rancho Novo. Reina stated that while the city supports the highway's modernization, it cannot accept infrastructure improvements that create drainage issues within local neighborhoods. The city has previously sought assistance from the Ministry of Transport, BNDES, and Ibama, as well as through legal channels.
