Nova Iguaçu municipality updates property registry for 400,000 homes
The Nova Iguaçu city hall is conducting a large‑scale update of its property registry. Teams wearing badges and vests are visiting residences in the California, Jardim Tropical and Engenho Pequeno neighborhoods, recording details such as façade material, flooring, construction age and owner information. About 3,000 properties are being recatalogued each week, with a target of updating roughly 400,000 dwellings by the end of 2027. Residents confirm the data on site; if no one is home, a notice with online instructions is left. Municipal Finance and Taxation Secretary Evandro Gonçalves said the effort will give the city more accurate information for urban planning and public‑service delivery. The cadastral office can be reached at (21) 2666‑4928 or via email.
