Nova Iguaçu repairs sewage network damaged by Via Dutra work

The municipality of Nova Iguaçu began a recovery operation on 21 July 2026 to repair the sewage network on Travessa Leopoldo in the Comendador Soares neighbourhood. The work is being carried out by the Companhia de Desenvolvimento de Nova Iguaçu (CODENI), which is replacing manholes that were damaged by Ecovias Rio Minas during the duplication of the Rodovia Presidente Dutra.

The damage resulted from the construction of a curtain‑wall retaining structure, which inadvertently perforated a manhole and injected concrete, blocking the pipe and causing sewage to back up into nearby homes. CODENI officials said the concessionaire supplied the necessary conduits and other materials for the repair. CODENI president Paulo César Souza explained that the team inspected the site on 20 July, confirmed the blockage, and coordinated with Ecovias to obtain the required supplies. The repair aims to restore normal sewage service for the affected residents.
