Nova Iguaçu updates SAMU ambulance fleet amid rising traffic accident victims
The Emergency Mobile Care Service (SAMU) in Nova Iguaçu has received three new ambulances to reinforce its emergency response capabilities. This fleet update, a partnership between the municipality, the Federal Government, and the Ministry of Health, aims to replace older vehicles and improve safety and service conditions for medical teams.
In August alone, SAMU performed 3,115 calls. The updated fleet now consists of 13 ambulances, including three for advanced support and ten for basic support. The service operates from eight different bases across the municipality to ensure regional coverage.
Concurrently, the Hospital Geral de Nova Iguaçu (HGNI) reported that it has treated 5,520 traffic accident victims in the first eight months of 2026. This figure nearly matches the total for the entire previous year. Motorcycle accidents account for the vast majority of these cases, representing 78.4% of traffic-related admissions during this period.
