Nova Scotia long‑term care workers ratify tentative agreement, ending province‑wide strike
Union representatives for long‑term care workers in Nova Scotia announced that the lead bargaining table, CUPE 1082, ratified a tentative agreement for staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax. The deal, reached with the provincial government, includes a minimum $5 wage increase over the life of the contract, extra pay for supervisors and student trainers, and stronger lay‑off protections.
The agreement will now be presented to the roughly 3,600 striking workers for a membership vote; if approved, the strike that began on April 13, 2026 will cease. During the dispute, essential‑services rules required some staff to rotate between picket lines and work sites, limiting services inside the homes.
