Novara region hit by severe supercell storm and hail

A violent supercell storm hit the Middle and Upper Novara regions in Italy, causing significant damage through heavy rainfall, large hail, and destructive wind gusts. The storm front moved through Cureggio before intensifying over Comignago and Borgo Ticino.

In Comignago, hail stones exceeding 4 centimeters in diameter were reported. Large trees fell across State Road 32 and Provincial Road 24, trapping a vehicle between fallen trunks. Firefighters and volunteers successfully rescued the occupants without injury and reopened the roads. Local officials have requested additional emergency teams to manage flooding and fallen trees near municipal buildings.

Borgo Ticino experienced substantial damage, including a roof being torn off an ecological platform and the closure of the local cemetery for safety. The municipality also faced temporary isolation due to telephone line failures. Other affected areas include Gattico Veruno, where wind uprooted trees, and Fontaneto d’Agogna, which was struck by a downburst.
