Desenrola Fies: deadline for student debt renegotiation ends today

The deadline for the Desenrola Fies 2026 program, which allows for the renegotiation of student loan debts from the Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (Fies), ends on Monday, August 31. The initiative offers various discounts and facilitated payment conditions for former students with contracts signed up until 2017 that were in the amortization phase as of May 4, 2026.

Eligible participants include both current and delinquent debtors. Depending on the specific profile and length of delinquency, some discounts may reach up to 99% of the consolidated debt value for lump-sum payments. For those in the CadÚnico social program with long-term arrears, significant abatements are available. Renegotiations must be conducted through the financial institutions that hold the contracts, specifically Banco do Brasil or Caixa Econômica Federal.

Separately, the Ministry of Education (MEC) is continuing the waiting list process for Fies 2026-2. Candidates who were pre-selected in this continuous call process have until September 24 to complete their registration requirements. Pre-selected students must complement their information via the official Fies portal within three business days of their notification to avoid losing their placement.
