Police arrest suspects in separate violent attacks in Brazil

Police in Brazil have arrested two men following separate violent attacks against women in the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.

In Novo Progresso, Pará, authorities arrested Josimar de Sousa following an attempted murder in the Santa Luzia neighborhood. Witnesses reported that the suspect struck a woman repeatedly with stones, causing a skull injury. Police intercepted the suspect on a motorcycle and seized a machete at the scene. The victim was treated at a municipal hospital.

In Pedra Preta, Mato Grosso, a man was arrested after breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a 28-year-old woman. The suspect fled the scene after the victim’s daughter raised an alarm, but he was later located by the Military Police. He was found in possession of cocaine and remains in custody. This incident follows reports from the State Secretariat of Public Security indicating a rise in sexual violence within the region.
