NPP constituency elections in Ayawaso West Wuogon face legal challenge

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ayawaso West Wuogon have initiated legal action following disputed constituency-level elections held on August 9, 2026. The plaintiffs, including Gideon Poku, allege that their names were removed from the polling station album to sideline those who opposed the former Constituency Secretary’s bid for the chairmanship.

Despite obtaining a court injunction to stop the electoral area elections, the aggrieved members claim the polls proceeded under the supervision of Alhaji Usman and Rachael Tutu. The Electoral Commission reportedly declined to oversee the vote due to the court order. Consequently, contempt proceedings have been initiated against Usman and Tutu for the alleged breach.

Further legal challenges seek to annul the elections and prevent the declared winners, including newly elected Constituency Chairman Issa Sawadogo, from presenting themselves as duly elected executives. Additionally, an investigation is underway by the Nima Police Station following an alleged assault involving a bailiff and a plaintiff at the party headquarters.
