New Patriotic Party electoral disputes in Ghana

Internal disputes within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding electoral processes have escalated from protests to legal challenges in Ghana.

In August 2026, supporters in the Ayawaso Central Constituency protested at the party’s Accra headquarters. The group demanded access to the constituency’s electoral album, alleging that unresolved challenges existed within the document. In response, the party’s Elections Committee was directed to meet with the petitioners to address concerns regarding specific electoral areas.

By September 2026, the conflict expanded to the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Members initiated legal action following disputed elections held on August 9, alleging that certain individuals were removed from polling station albums to sideline political opponents. Despite a court injunction intended to halt the electoral area elections, plaintiffs claim the polls proceeded under the supervision of specific individuals. This has led to contempt proceedings and efforts to annul the election results. Additionally, local police are investigating an alleged assault involving a bailiff and a plaintiff at the party headquarters.
