NPP leaders protest detention of nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe

Political leaders in Ghana are criticizing the arrest and detention of senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who is accused of involvement in the distribution of false news via the TikTok account ‘Ghana Jollof’. Baffoe was reportedly taken from her residence during a midnight operation by individuals identifying themselves as National Security operatives. She has pleaded not guilty to charges of abetment of crime.

Bernard Okoe Boye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman, has threatened to organize a sit-in at the police station to demand Baffoe’s bail by the weekend. He argued that her continued detention violates principles of natural justice and prevents her from caring for her son.

Additionally, NPP Ahafo Regional Communication Director Alfred Asiedu warned that the manner of the arrest—conducted late at night without an immediate warrant—could set a dangerous precedent. Asiedu suggested such tactics could provide a blueprint for criminals to mimic security operatives for kidnapping purposes.
