NRK receives 1,500 songs for Melodi Grand Prix 2027

The Norwegian public broadcaster NRK has received approximately 1,500 song submissions for Melodi Grand Prix 2027, the national selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Mads Tjørklep, the head of the Melodi Grand Prix plan, noted that between 30 and 50 of these submissions are suspected to be entirely generated by artificial intelligence. While competition rules prohibit such compositions, Tjørklep observed that many applicants declared their use of AI, and a significant portion of the entries came from individuals who are not professional musicians.

NRK has stated it does not rule out the use of AI for other aspects of music production, such as technical details or inspiration, noting its increasing prevalence in the Norwegian music industry. The musical team, managed by Tarjei Strøm, is currently reviewing the entries to select competitors for the upcoming contest.
