NSCDC arrests suspects for infrastructure theft in Osun and Zamfara
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested several suspects in separate incidents involving the theft and vandalism of infrastructure in Osun and Zamfara states.
In Osun State, the NSCDC arrested three individuals—Taliatu Olunlade, Wasiu Olunlade, and Ganiyu Ayomide—for the alleged theft and sale of electrical cables in Agbona Village, Iwo Local Government Area. The cables had been temporarily removed for road construction following an arrangement between the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and community leaders. Investigations revealed the cables were sold to a metal scrap dealer for N150,000. One principal suspect remains at large.
In Zamfara State, the NSCDC arrested nine suspects for the vandalism and theft of roofing zinc from Tsageru Primary School in Tsafe Local Government Area. Following a report from the local Education Secretary, operatives apprehended Alhaji Haruna Amadu, who identified eight accomplices. The suspects allegedly conspired to remove roofing materials from three classrooms. The group reportedly attempted to bribe local traditional rulers to avoid consequences, but the bribes were rejected.
