NSCDC arrests suspects for infrastructure vandalism in Nigeria
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested multiple individuals involved in the theft and vandalism of critical infrastructure in different regions of the country.
In the Federal Capital Territory, the NSCDC arrested two men, Mustapha Yusuf and Usman Mohammed, for allegedly stealing high-tension electricity cables belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in the Kwali Area Council. Four rolls of high-tension cables were recovered. Investigations suggest the suspects are part of a larger syndicate, with other members still at large.
In Anambra State, operatives arrested Anuba Chisom for vandalizing an IHS-MTN telecommunications mast in Awka. The suspect was apprehended during a routine patrol with vandalized cables and components. Chisom reportedly confessed to having vandalized two other sites, citing unemployment as a motivation. The NSCDC has warned that it will continue to target syndicates responsible for the destruction of national and local assets.
