NSFAS opens 2027 student funding applications

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened applications for the 2027 academic year. The application window officially began on 18 September 2026 and is scheduled to close on 31 October 2026.

Applications are free of charge and must be submitted online via the official NSFAS website or the myNSFAS portal. New applicants are required to create a profile using their South African ID number, full names, cellphone number, and email address. The scheme validates identity information against Department of Home Affairs records.

NSFAS advises students to ensure all personal information and supporting documents are accurate before submission. The organization warns applicants against sharing passwords or one-time PINs and emphasizes that no fees should be paid to anyone to facilitate an application.
